Why Sauraha is the gateway to Chitwan

Sauraha is the main tourist hub on the edge of Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From here you can join jeep safaris, canoe trips, jungle walks, and cultural evenings with local guides.

1. Jeep safari in Chitwan National Park

A jeep safari is the most popular way to explore deeper sectors of the park. Half-day and full-day options are available. Early morning and late afternoon drives often offer the best wildlife activity.

The indigenous Tharu community has deep roots in the Chitwan plains. Village visits and evening stick-dance performances give visitors a respectful window into local life beyond the park gates.

Chitwan is one of Nepal’s top birding destinations, with hundreds of species recorded in and around the park. Wetlands, riverbanks, and forest edges near Sauraha are productive year-round.
